Tues | 11/10 - 12/15 (6 sessions) | 06:00 PM - 09:00 PM

This class will jumpstart, renew and deepen your portraiture practice. Designed to follow on to my beginner class, we will continue to explore using observation skills, measurement skills, and effective mark-making to capture a likeness. We will work in graphite, charcoal, and gouache, focusing on capturing tonal variations that describe shape and form. Students will use technical skills from my Intro class to work from live models and to develop a personal portrait project from a favorite photograph.

Learning Objectives:

  • Get more comfortable with "drawing tight and painting loose"
  • Improve use of technical drawing skills
  • Gain comfort and skill in modeling the head and face with water based media

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will leave the class with enough knowledge, skills and practice to deepen their portrait practice and develop their personal style on their own

Who is this class for?

  • Students who have some prior experience with portrait drawing and painting. They should have either taken my intro to portrait class or another portrait class
