CPT 060-2-S24 | Painting and Storytelling

Course Overview:

Together we will observe the ways that painters from the 20th and 21st centuries have used painting as a storytelling device. We will then take this understanding into a self-directed studio session where your voice takes precedence. Everybody has a story to tell. How will you share yours?

Learning Outcomes:

  • To understand the different techniques painters have used to express ideas through imagery
  • To understand how artists react to the world around them to influence their paintings
  • To explore ideas from art history and translate them into your own practice
  • To create a painting or series of paintings that explore concepts with emotional authenticity

Who is this course for?

This course is for newcomers and experienced painters alike! It’s perfect for those who:

  • Wish to explore the "why" of painting in addition to the "how”
  • Have experiences or feelings that you want to translate into painting
  • Want an active tour of 20th and 21st-century painting
