CDR 113-1-S24 | Drawing Intensive

Course Overview:

Would you like to be more fluent in drawing? This intensive is a great way to get going or to get to the next level. It's designed for beginners and for experienced artists. The critiques are brief and supportive and the atmosphere in the classroom is collaborative and encouraging. You will be working with all types of dry and wet media. Subjects include figure drawing, still life and landscape. Approaches include drawing from observation, imagination, and memory. Each day is filled with drawing exercises designed to stretch and loosen drawing muscles, and exercises intended to build strength and depth of understanding. Extended studies will be preceded by warm-ups in the form of drawing games and followed by short studies intended to send you home feeling invigorated and looking forward to the next day of drawing.

Faculty:
Judy LaBrasca taught in the BFA program at MECA&D from 2000 to 2007 as a founding member of the Illustration department. She has taught in the Continuing Studies department since 2001 and has taught drawing workshops to students of all ages. She is the illustrator of Deborah Davis' book The Secret of the Seal, published by Random House, and is working on a new book entitled Drawing Games. Her studio work includes both drawings, photographs, and artist books.


SUPPLIES:

  • Graphite pencils: a 6B or softer pencil, and a 3B pencil.
  • A kneaded eraser
  • pencil sharpener
  • number 6 or larger round watercolor brush
  • pad of white or off-white drawing paper of your choice, 18" x 24" or close (e.g. Strathmore 80b medium natural white drawing paper or Borden and Reilly Normandy Erasable 70b paper which is cream colored, or something similar).
