Learn how to complete a short non-fiction audio piece drawn from your own life and experiences. In this class you will learn how to determine what makes a good personal story, how to write like you speak, how to record narration, and how to build a compelling first-person narrative.

Faculty: Carly Peruccio

I’m Carly (she/her), an audio producer based in Portland, Maine. My work has appeared on NPR and The Maine Monitor, and I'm currently making audio stories at Religion of SportsAs a member of The Anglerfish audio collective, my friends and I tell experimental stories in sound. I previously worked as a Teaching Assistant for the Radio & Podcasting track at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, where I edited students’ stories and helped teach Pro Tools, interviewing, story structure, and producing. I studied audio storytelling at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, and I graduated from Bates College with a degree in anthropology. As a Fulbright Fellow, I taught high school English in Luxembourg City. Beyond audio storytelling, I'm a library worker, trail runner, soccer fan, and piano player.

 

Supplies:

Audio editing software of your choice (there are various free and student versions of different kinds available online and we will cover some options in class)

Something to record audio with (can be as basic as a smart phone).
