Course Description

Fun block printing for beginners or anyone. Make machine washable and weather-durable signage, patches for clothing, blocks for quilts, pillow tops, etc. Learn to take a simple image or words, carve on a block printing surface, ink it up and transfer to cloth. Learn how to appliqué the blocks to a surface. All levels welcomed.

Instructor: Maggie Muth 

Maggie Muth has a BFA in Painting (with a minor in drawing) from MECA, and a two year certificate in Stitched Textiles from the Opus School of Textile Arts in the UK. She has been a life-long stitcher and has taught classes at Maine Fiber Arts, Port Fiber and Mayo Street Arts, the American Visionary Art Museum, Maine College of Art, as well as overseas. Supplies:

  • Speedball Soft Cut Block or Speedy Carve Block
  • Speedball Lino cutting set
  • Speedball Fabric Block Printing ink  - two or more tubes (Choose your own colors)
  • 1 yard (or more) of quality 100% cotton cloth or other surface to print on
  • Few pieces of tracing paper or transfer paper
  • Speedball 4” soft rubber brayer
  • #2 pencil 
  • Large wooden spoon or Speedball baren
  • Pencil and drawing paper/sketchbook
  • Piece of plexiglas or smooth plastic or picture frame glass at least 9x12”
