Joe Lendway
Working in MECA's state-of-the-art woodworking studios, students will learn basic woodworking and furniture making techniques with the goal of completing a simple Shaker side table. Students will learn safe and proper usage of basic hand tools and woodworking equipment, as well as basic joinery techniques, and finishing.
Some of the techniques we will cover include: lumber preparation, milling processes, mortise and tenon joinery, hand shaping, sanding, and finishing. Each student will leave with a strong introduction to the basic processes of furniture making, and small side table at least most of the way completed.

Joe Lendway earned his BFA in Woodworking and Furniture Design from the Maine College of Art in 2015. His current practice focuses on a mix of teaching woodcraft, designing and building custom furniture out of his shop in Portland's historic West End, working part time building pipe organs for David E. Wallace and Co. in Gorham, Maine, and building wooden homewares for The Woodworker's Wife, a company he started and runs with his wife, Emily. His current work can be seen at:
