Painting by Jean Wiecha
Deepen your portrait practice in this 6 week class. We will review skills and theory and practice applying them through use of plaster casts, copying master portraits, using our own photo references and working with live models. Skills include comparative measurement, using line and mass, value and plane shifts, and combining drawing and painting to create likenesses that are accurate and lively. You'll work hard and have fun discovering what you can do. This is not a class for beginners, but if you took my intro to portrait class or anyone else's, this is your follow up.
Learning Objectives:
1. Build on basic portrait skills to deepen ability to capture a likeness with accuracy and energy.
2. Become more comfortable and proficient in comparative measurement, contour lines, and massing of values in monochromatic portrait drawing and painting.
3. Begin to gain skill in using color to build form, likeness, and personality.
Students will: gain confidence and proficiency; start to see their own portrait style emerge; and learn how to keep their practice fun and joyful through positive intention setting and gentle self-monitoring of progress.
