This class is an exploration of traditional millinery techniques for felt. Students will use MECA's extensive collection of vintage wooden hat forms to shape a wool felt hat. Students will learn embellishment techniques with feathers, beads and ribbons to make each hat unique. Each participant will complete 1 hat. Hat blank will be supplied.

Betsy Scheintaub is a garment designer, fiber artist, and business owner. She owns Bobbin Studio and is co-owner of Bobolink cycling gear. She has a BFA in Fiber Arts and 10 years experience working in costumes for opera, ballet, and theater. She has designed garments for production as well as a line of handbags and accessories. Her work is influenced by traditional Japanese textiles, mid-century Scandinavian design and Soviet design from the 1930's.
