Course Description

This workshop is an introduction to the basics of garment design and creating your own patterns. We will take accurate measurements and use them to draft original patterns and customize commercial patterns for a good personal fit. You can also learn how to make a pattern from an existing piece of clothing. Basic sewing skills are required.

Weekend Workshop 

Tuition: $245 + $20 Studio Fee

Faculty:
Cheslye Ventimiglia has a dressmaking studio in Portland and specializes in the reconstruction of vintage clothing and costume design. She volunteers in the costume shop at Portland Stage and has taught sewing and pattern making at MECA since 2000 with an emphasis on quality garment construction.

 

Student supply list:

  • A dressmaker’s measuring tape
  • dressmaker’s pins
  • a pair of sharp scissors
  • sewing needles and thread
  • a calculator
  • a commercial sewing pattern that you would like to alter and/or an existing garment that you would like to copy
  • Bring a portable sewing machine and an extension cord

 

COVID POLICIES: 

All students + faculty are required to:
