Students will work each week from live models using a variety of drawing media. Exercises designed to heighten observational skills and encourage bold and inventive mark making will lead students through an on-going exploration of the proportions, form and contours of the human figure.

Martha Miller has been creating portraits and self-portraits for over thirty years, working in pencil, pastel, charcoal and mixed media. Martha holds a BFA in Printmaking from MECA, worked for many years with the North Berwick Figure Drawing Group and attended figure drawing sessions at the Bowdoinham Academy, studio of the late Carlo Pittore. She continues to use the print process in her studio practice. 1 drawing pad, white paper, 18 x 24" or larger
1 large pad newsprint, 18 x 24" or larger
several sticks of charcoal (square black and medium vine charcoal)
assorted drawing pencils (2B, 4B, 6B)
pastels (6 or more Rembrandt brand, assorted colors of your choice)
white plastic eraser
a couple of inexpensive paint brushes (1/2" wide or larger)
Optional: colored pencils, markers, crayons, watercolors, acrylics, oil pastels, or other drawing materials of your choice.
