Students will work each week from live nude models using a variety of drawing media. This course was designed to heighten observational skills and encourage experimentation. Focus is placed on proportion, form, value and composition. The flexible format of this course is perfect for beginners looking for instruction to highly advanced artists in search of time with a model.

Faculty:

Jennifer Brou is an artist, designer and educator based in South Portland, Maine. Jennifer studied at the Glasgow School of Art and earned her BFA in Crafts, with a Minor in Photography, from Longwood University. Her multifaceted studio practice includes knitwear design, drawing and photography. Jennifer currently teaches in the Foundation and Continuing Studies Programs at Maine College of Art & Design.

Jennifer's teaching style in Continuing Studies is open and flexible. Classes typically have a wide variety of skill levels. Jennifer works to tailor the experience to individual students and at the same time offer inspiration, support and encouragement.

 

Supplies:

  • 1 drawing pad- white paper and/or newsprint 18 x 24" or larger
  • toned paper (tan or gray), 18 x 24” or larger
  • Several sticks of black charcoal, vine and compressed
  • Several sticks of white charcoal
  • Chamois cloth or piece of felt
  • kneaded eraser
  • white plastic eraser

Optional: inexpensive paint brushes, dip pen, India ink, colored pencils, markers, crayons, graphite, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, oil pastels, or other drawing materials of your choice.
