CDR 131-W20 | Sketchbooks: Cultivating a Daily Practice

Tues, 1-4PM, 1/14-3/31, ROOM: 209, Porteous Building

Maximum Enrollment: 12 LBS

Course Description

Make your own sketchbooks and experiment with drawing and painting. No experience necessary - a good class for beginners and for experienced artists who would like to get back to a daily sketchbook practice. Sketchbooks are great in the studio and in the field for capturing thoughts and observations, and the practice of keeping a daily sketchbook/journal/sourcebook/notebook can enhance the experience it records. We'll try out various sketchbook formats and portable kits for drawing and painting. Methods for capturing scenes, people, animals, and ways to express and record your own observations and ideas will be explored. Techniques covered include basic bookmaking, fast drawing, slow drawing, various wet and dry media, color mixing, pencils, pastel, watercolor and mixed media. We will work from observation, memory, and imagination. The emphasis is on process and having fun. Most materials provided.

TUITION: $330 + FEES: $35
