This class is ideal for individuals looking to create sketchbooks to use for travel and on location work. Students will earn how to create a variety of artist sketchbooks, from simple to more complex.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn bookmaking techniques and create functional multimedia sketchbooks
  • Students will leave the workshop with 4-6 functional sketchbooks

 

Who is this course for? 

Any individual with interest in bookmaking!

 

Faculty:

Marguerite Lawler-Rohner has exhibited paintings throughout New England and New York. She holds an MFA from the City University of New York and a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. Marguerite was the recipient of the 2011 Stephen Pace House Artist Residency through Maine College of Art. Her work is shown in both public and private collections. Her work is shown at Hole in the Wall Studioworks and Ocean House Gallery. www.margueritelawler.com

Marguerite's teaching style is sequential and structured, with hands-on learning. 

 

Supplies:

  • 3 sheets-18” x 24" (drawing or watercolorpaper of your choice)
  • 140lb or less Cardstock in a few colors
  • Decorative paper
  • Book binder’s board, .067 or .082" thick
  • X-Acto or craft knife
  • Cutting mat
  • Awl
  • Bone folder
  • Bookbinding needle or embroidery needle
  • Waxed linen thread
  • Unbleached linen thread
  • 2-ply PVA glue and brush
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Parchment or waxed paper
  • 12" and 18” metal ruler
