Course Description

This class will use a smooth, white, porcelain-like clay, which yields the most brilliant results from our colorful collection of cone 6 glazes. Both wheel throwing and hand building techniques will be covered while we explore useful, functional forms, and the relationships between form, surface, color and pattern. A variety of decorative methods will be presented, including the use of slips, stains, wax resist, sgraffito, texture, and more! Come join the fun!

Cathy Schroeder Hammond has been teaching pottery in So. Maine since 1991. She served as MECA's Ceramic Technician for eleven years, and also taught in both the BFA and CS programs. Since 2001 Cathy has operated her own business, Pasture's Edge Studio, in Lyman, ME, and sells her work through select shops in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, including Maine Potters Market here in Portland.
