This class will focus on wheel-thrown ceramics with an emphasis on functional forms. A variety of decorating possibilities, including slips, stains, glazes and texture, will be explored, with special emphasis on how surface decoration relates to form. Students will learn how to prepare ware for firing in large gas reduction kilns, and how the reduction atmosphere affects both clay and glazes. Students from the beginner to the experienced can work at their own pace, with teacher-guided individualized instruction.
