Precollege 2014

Talented high school age artists from all over the country came together at MECA for three intensive weeks of classes in painting, illustration, photography, printmaking, metalsmithing, bookmaking and more.

For one of their projects, each student created a small print run of an original drawing.  All the prints were then bound into books so that each student could have a copy of everyone else's work.

Hammering copper for a bracelet

Three handmade copper rings using different techniques (hammering, drilling and sawing, stamping, torching) learned over the course of the summer.

Students work on their final painting pieces, a self directed culmination of everything they've learned.

Instructor Thurston Howes goes over dark room basics with his students.
