This course will present strategies for combining traditional intaglio techniques with non-traditional approaches to printmaking including non-toxic intaglio printmaking and Xerox lithography techniques. You will explore the possibilities of using photographs, computer generated images, drawings and Xerox copies in conjunction with basic techniques of non-toxic printing.

Judith Allen-Efstathiou is a printmaker and mixed media artists who works in both traditional intaglio printmaking and experimental, contemporary printmaking processes. She is especially interested in the overlap of printmaking with other fine art discipline and often includes some form of printmaking in her mixed media work. She has exhibited her work in the USA and Europe in a number of international printmaking biennials. Her recent exhibitions include "Mapping the Walk" at the George Marshall Store Galley in York, "Diary of the Wild" at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Boothbay and "Oistros" in Bologna, Italy. Participants should bring the following to the first class: several Xerox copies, rubber gloves, a work apron, and one or 2 sheets of printing paper (mulberry paper, or etching paper)
