Course Description

Think amazing, funny, sad, formative personal stories. Think blogs (good ones), or anecdotal comedians (again, good ones). Think letters to the editor. Think letters to an old friend. In this course we'll explore the many forms of personal essay, some formal and informal. We'll seek out the things we want to tell and learn how best to tell them.

Emily Jane Young received her MFA from Stonecoast and BFA from the University of Maine at Farmington. She is the co-founder and artistic director of Word Portland, a literary reading series held at LFK in Portland. She is co-editor of the collection Be Wilder and her work has appeared in the anthologies I Could Be Here Now and Be Wilder.
