This class is intended for the beginner design. The course will start with a look at principles of design, and basic flower care. Each subsequent week we will focus on varying styles, combining technical skills with a focus on seasonal elements, designs, and compositions. Centerpieces, bouquets, and corsages will be included in the tutorials. Students can bring their work home with them each week for their enjoyment and study.

John Sundling is an independent florist, set designer, and artist living in Portland, Maine. John has spent over 6 years behind the design bench and became professionally certified in 2014. He currently runs his own design business focusing on floral education, private and corporate events, commercial clients, and botanical styling. Johns set design work has been seen across the country, and most recently at Mad Horse Theatre, SPACE Gallery, and Opera Maines Studio Artist Program. He also is co-director of Institute for American Art, an itinerant art project space run with his husband, Chris Stiegler. In June 2017 John had his first public art commission, Ghost Fence, installed in Franklin Arterial in Portland.
