Course Description

In this class students will learn about the most common glaze materials, the basics of glaze making, how to adjust glazes for personal use, and how to test glaze colorants. Each student will develop at least one base glaze, with multiple color options. Glaze recipes will be shared among all participants. All firings will be in electric kilns. Previous ceramic experience required.


TUITION: $330 + FEES: $40

Cathy Schroeder Hammond has been teaching pottery in So. Maine since 1991. She served as MECA's Ceramic Technician for eleven years, and also taught in both the BFA and CS programs. Since 2001 Cathy has operated her own business, Pasture's Edge Studio, in Lyman, ME, and sells her work through select shops in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, including Maine Potters Market here in Portland.

Students can bring a gram scale if they have one.
